Shirley offers therapeutic services to young children, youth, parents, and whole families. A collaborative strength-based approach is provided within a safe environment that offers growth and resilience. Experiences in therapy will empower strengths from within, build coping skills, and increase understanding of self and others to allow healing and growth. Shirley draws from a variety of therapeutic approaches that include Play & Theraplay, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), mindfulness approaches, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), narrative therapy & family systems theory to intentionally address issues such as grief / loss, anxiety, depression, stress / anger, behaviour, and relational interruptions such as separation and divorce.

Shirley is a Master of Social Work who graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University, a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Shirley is also a Certified Play Therapist with CAPT (Canadian Association of Play Therapy) and a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Shirley has lengthy experience working with foster & adopted families, working within the Children’s Mental Health system, and working with individuals and families who have experienced traumatic experiences.
