Dr. Bart is registered with both the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the College of Nurses of Ontario. Her professional practice as a registered nurse was primarily in northern regions of Canada with First Nations Peoples, and in psychiatric settings. She completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at York University in 1992. Her education and experience in nursing is an adjunct to her practice as a psychologist in understanding the relationship between psychological and physical functioning. She is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association and is registered with the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.

She has provided assessment and treatment in private practice, psychiatric and medical settings. Her areas of interest include recovery from anxiety, phobia and panic, depression, stress, grief and chronic pain primarily using cognitive behavioural, solution-focused and insight-oriented therapies, grief counseling and meditation. She has a special interest in personal growth and transformation in response to physical and mental health crises, chronic illness, and childhood and adult onset trauma. She has worked also in the areas of cancer coping, organ transplantation, and stroke, cardiac, motor vehicle accident and workplace accident rehabilitation. Her practice includes individual and couple therapy with adolescents and adults.

In addition to her clinical work, she has been an educator and researcher in Canadian and African academic institutions and currently holds an appointment at the University of Toronto.
